15 Things I Personally Love About Autumn — And №9 Is the Best
Autumn is not just cold weather and rainy days. Sometimes, it is the little things that make us fall in love with the season.

Autumn means bright, colorful, rustling leaves — at least if you don’t live somewhere warm enough for them to stay green all year. It means hot cocoa, cozy coffee shops, warm sweaters, and that wonderful feeling of coming inside from the cold.
After all, cold weather teaches us to appreciate warmth.
So, I decided to make a little personal list of 15 things that make autumn feel special. Some are tiny, some are a little silly, and some might make you want to cancel your plans and stay home.

1. Wrapping Yourself in a Blanket and Watching Your Favorite Series
There is something about autumn that makes a blanket feel like an essential piece of furniture. Make yourself a hot drink, put on your favorite series, wrap yourself in the softest blanket you own, and let yourself disappear into a fictional world for a few hours.
No guilt. It is autumn.
2. Watching the Rain from the Window with a Hot Cup of Tea
Rain feels completely different when you are watching it from somewhere warm and dry. Find your favorite mug, make some tea, sit by the window, and watch the drops slide down the glass.
Suddenly, the weather doesn’t seem so bad.
3. Candles. Lots of Candles
Autumn is the season when having one candle is simply not enough. Vanilla, cinnamon, cedarwood, apple, pumpkin, coffee — whatever smells like comfort to you. Light one in the evening. Then another one because the first one looks lonely.

4. That Fresh Autumn Air
The first deep breath of cool autumn air can feel surprisingly refreshing. It is crisp, clean, and somehow makes you want to walk a little farther than you planned. Especially after a long summer, cooler air feels like pressing the reset button.
5. Making Little Crafts from Acorns
Remember collecting acorns as a child? There is no reason to stop now. Make tiny decorations, little animals, autumn garlands, or simply put a handful of acorns in a bowl and call it seasonal decor.
You don’t need to be particularly crafty. You just need a little imagination.
6. Going for a Walk in the Forest or Mountains
Autumn might be one of the best seasons for hiking. The air is cooler, the crowds are smaller, and the landscape can turn into a giant painting of gold, orange, red, and brown.
Put on comfortable shoes, take a thermos of something warm, and go somewhere with trees.

7. Reading a Book in Soft, Dim Light
Summer is for reading outside in the sunshine. Autumn is for reading under a warm lamp while the rest of the room stays pleasantly dim. Add a blanket, a cup of tea, and a book you have been meaning to read for months. Perfect.
8. Choosing the Brightest Umbrella You Can Find
If it is going to rain anyway, your umbrella might as well make you happy. Choose yellow, red, orange, blue, or any color that stands out against a gray sky. A bright umbrella is basically a tiny piece of sunshine you can carry around.
9. Running Through Puddles with Your Dog
Yes, even if you’re 34. Yes, even if you’re supposed to be an adult. Put on your rain boots, let your dog get excited, and jump into a puddle or two. Some things are simply too much fun to outgrow.

10. Baking Ginger and Cinnamon Cookies
Few things make a home smell more like autumn than freshly baked cookies.
Easy Ginger & Cinnamon Cookies
You’ll need:
- 100 g butter
- 80 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 200 g flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp baking powder
How to make them:
Mix the softened butter and sugar, then add the egg. Stir in the flour, cinnamon, ginger, and baking powder until you have a soft dough. Roll it out, cut out little cookies, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 10–12 minutes. Let them cool — if you can resist eating them immediately.

11. Giving Away Things You Don’t Need
Autumn can be a surprisingly good time for a little reset. Go through your wardrobe, shelves, drawers, and those mysterious boxes you haven’t opened in years.
If you haven’t used something in a long time and someone else could enjoy it, let it go. A little less clutter can make your home — and your mind — feel lighter.

12. Becoming a Little Kinder to Strangers
Maybe it is the colder weather, but autumn somehow makes small acts of kindness feel more important. Hold the door open. Let someone go ahead of you. Smile at the person serving your coffee. Help someone carrying too many bags. We never really know what another person is going through. And sometimes, a tiny moment of kindness can make someone’s entire day a little warmer.

13. Getting More Work Done
There is something about autumn that makes me want to sit down and actually get things done.
Maybe it is because there are fewer distractions. Maybe it is the cooler weather. Or maybe I simply enjoy the feeling of working while rain falls outside. Autumn has a quiet productivity to it.
So, open your laptop, make yourself a coffee, put on some music, and finally finish that thing you’ve been postponing since summer.

14. Making Plans for Winter
Autumn is also a little bridge between seasons. It is the perfect time to think about what you want your winter to look like. A trip? A new hobby? A cozy home project? Learning something new? Finally watching that entire series?
You don’t have to plan your whole life. Just give yourself a few things to look forward to.
15. Traveling Somewhere That Was Too Hot in Summer
This might be one of my favorite things about autumn. Some places that are unbearably hot in July and August become absolutely wonderful in September, October, or November. Fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, quieter streets, and much more comfortable sightseeing.
So while everyone else is saying goodbye to summer, you can simply choose a destination where summer was too much — and go there now.

Maybe autumn isn’t something we have to wait to get through.
Maybe it is a season full of little reasons to slow down, get cozy, explore, create, and enjoy ordinary things a little more. And honestly, that doesn’t sound so bad.
