Working hard isn’t always the same as moving forward.
Sometimes, we put in years of effort only to realize we’ve been climbing the wrong ladder.
A student once said to a wise teacher: “I work hard every day, but I don’t feel any closer to my goal.”
The teacher led the student to two ladders. “Climb the first one,” he said.
The student climbed a hundred steps, only to find himself facing a solid wall. Then the teacher pointed to the second ladder. It was much shorter. The student climbed just twenty steps and found himself standing on top of a hill, overlooking a breathtaking view.
“Do you understand now?” the teacher asked.
The student nodded.
“It’s not about how many steps you climb. It’s about making sure your ladder is leaning against the right wall.”
Moral:
Hard work matters, but choosing the right direction matters even more.
Sometimes we don’t need to work harder — we need to pause and ask whether we’re investing our time in the life we truly want.
